You hear the terms all the time: Carbohydrates (carbs), proteins, and fats. Most people know what a fat is, but what is a protein or a carbohydrate?

Each is a form of energy, and they are all so much more.

Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are primarily sugars. One gram of carbohydrates has about 4 calories. Selecting carbohydrates is important - some are better than others. Some Carbohydrates are better than others.

Proteins

Proteins give your body the building blocks it needs in order to rebuild muscles and other tissues. They also tell your body to burn fat. Where to find protein in your food.

Fats

Fats are necessary in your diet. Choosing the right fats is the key to a long healthy life. Eating some fat at each meal helps slow the absorption of the carbs in that meal. Which fats are better?

To Eat Balanced...

You should get around 40% of your calories from carbohydrates at every meal.

You should get around 30% of your calories from Protein at every meal.

At every meal, you should get around 30% of your calories from Fats.
