How to Stop those Pesky Pop-Ups

Back to News and Articles

If you are here, then you use the web. And if you use the web, then you know how annoying those Pop Up advertisements can be.

We use the web too, and we can't stand them. FormulaZone never uses pop ups, because we don't believe in them. They are maddening! Not just for you, but for us as a website company as well. Why? Because now people are using pop-up blockers, and that makes our job more difficult.

We receive e-mails for support on a frequent basis that certain links on our site aren't working. Those links are always the Help, I Forgot My Password, or Search Central links. What do these all have in common? That's right: they open a new page. And, if your Pop-Up blocker is not smart, then it will stop those pages from being opened.

But what do you do? Well, read on, because we've researched the matter, and we have found a great solution!

Wait a second! Why does a Zone Diet site have information on Pop-Ups? Because, we believe that we should be a service to our members. Naturally, everyone who is a member of FormulaZone uses the internet.

While FormulaZone does not use pop-ups for advertisements, we do use pop-up windows for Help and a few other functions. The pages are only used when they make sense, but they are used.

The problem is that understandably, people have started using Pop-Up blockers. And everyone is offering them! Google's toolbar, Alexa's toolbar, Yahoo's toolbar, AOL, Earthlink, and many many more. Where's the problem? Basically it boils down to this: does the pop-up blocker stop all pop-ups, including those that are useful, such as FormulaZone's help?

FormulaZone has reviewed many pop-up blockers. We've tried Google's toolbar, Alexa's toolbar, and others. We were not impressed.

We were excited when we tried STOPzilla! The ULTIMATE Popup Killer!, and we are endorsing it. Why? Because it works great, and it is smart! Unlike Google or Alexa, STOPzilla is smart enough to allow a pop-up such as FormulaZone's help without bothering you. And, it is smart enough to eliminate all of the other unwanted pop-ups like magic! Not only does it stop pop-ups, but it also stops Adware, spyware, cookies, and other privacy-invading software that you may not even know is running. But don't take our word for it- CNet chose them as the Editor's choice in November 2003, and Tucows has given them a 5 cow rating.
